Right well something to spur you on to let us all know what youve been doing: whats the most exciting/interesting thing that has happened to you this term so far?

Posted on 31 January 2004 by Oliver.

Comments

Busy term for me, one of my best mates has left Uni, Weve found and signed up for a really nice house next year, and I've written a track which will be personally put in the hands of Sasha worlds greatest DJ this evening...

Posted on 31 January 2004 23:46 by Oliver.

Most exciting things: Discovering an entire section of a pound shop to be devoted to the worlds worst DVD's, featuring such legendary actors as Bruce Le and Jackie Chun; Discovering "Abra Kebabra"; sorting out a surfing holiday and trans-siberian travel for the summer holidays; realising that there's nothing stopping me pursuing a career as a photographer; finding out that two good friends are potentially gonna be living in Brighton next year.

Worst thing: Housing.

Posted on 1 February 2004 0:57 by Geds.

lol, Ive seen many such DVDs at our pound shops. That sounds like a fun packed summer youve got in store.

Posted on 1 February 2004 11:27 by Oliver.

has no one else done anything exciting?

Posted on 3 February 2004 17:58 by Oliver.

There was an interesting incident involving irate chinese people, breaking and entering, and noisy sex, but apart from that not really!

Posted on 3 February 2004 18:18 by Alasdair.

I heard a joke on the bus today...
"What's the difference between a bowling ball and a Hull slapper?
Nothing, they both have 3 holes and spend all night banging down an alley!"

Sorry, not that funny, made me chuckle though.

Posted on 4 February 2004 14:53 by Kat.

thats quite funny actually, thanks for lettin me know about this post kat, i obviosuly hadnt checked it enough. Most exciting thing has most likely been sledging last week on waveney mound n the sdnow in general, the NME tour tonight should be good as well,

worst thing is deciding whether to stay or not.

For our end of year ball, apparantly there will be guest appearances by Girls Aloud, Big Brovaz, Jordan and...Pat Sharp!! Yes, the guy with the mullet from Fun House (I know you all used to watch it!!), apparantly they're turning the union nightclub Asylum into a Fun House!!! If I go I will definatley get photos :).

Posted on 5 February 2004 22:03 by Kat.

Will someone please explain to me why students are obsessed with Pat Sharpe? I dont have anything against him, but he's pretty talentless and I cannot see why once having had a mullet qualifies you for such adoration that I see many ppl have for him. :S

Posted on 6 February 2004 0:03 by Oliver.

I don't really know. You've had quite the few obsessions yourself, e.g. Leon Bryant, the Morley, the "Bulldog" and they didn't have a whole lot of talent.
Guess it's like the Chesney obsession...comes from no where!!

Posted on 6 February 2004 13:35 by Kat.

Spose its something to do with your childhood really cos hes like one of the tv people most ppl our age know, but yeah to be fair he's not all that great. Uni's like that, theres loads of stuff like which seems to be trying to remind u of younger days, we have loads on 90's discos m skool disco nights etc, + a load of the celebs are ppl like him - not especially interesting, generally washed up but everyone knows em.

I dont think oli was having a go or anything kat - thats the way ur post comes across anyhow by mentioning oli's "obsessions". not having a go at anyone, just how it appears. anyhow, would be good to know what happened to the bulldog n morley- wonder if he is still putting up with kids throwing fire works through his windows and stealing tools to use as weapons :)

Posted on 6 February 2004 13:45 by furze.

Lol wasn't having a go.

Posted on 6 February 2004 15:09 by Kat.

Lol, Leon has waaay more talent, hes got such a voice, amazing songwriter and who could resist those misty eyes....

<img src="http://oliq.instantlogic.com/Images/Photos//{7B7816DC-9114-4B2D-92C6-316B0C189C93}/{0C81F87A-99F2-4DFE-A465-958979B7E542}lg.jpg?{D457215F-0DCA-4B68-B717-9D4F0C0DBB00}" alt="Leon" title="Leon"width="640" height="480" border="0" /></a>

Soooo much more than just a crap hairstyle. :D I know what you mean Will, it seems to me deeply sad that such a large proportion of people spend so much of their time being nostalgic at the early age of 19/20. Having said that even nostalgia beats Kigdom nightclubs's themed Valentines night "Lord of the Snogs". The flyer gives few details other than a phot of Saruman and a set of puckered lips, with "lord of the Snogs" in the LOTR typeface. What will they think of next?!?

Posted on 7 February 2004 0:58 by Oliver.

No HTML then?

Posted on 7 February 2004 0:58 by Oliver.

Well I got up to some pretty exciting stuff yesterday-> check out the video -> http://onlysucesscanfailmen.tripod.com/traps.wmv

Posted on 7 February 2004 12:16 by Oliver.

I just had an exciting incident in the car park in Cottingham...
I was reversing out of my space, when the car in front of me started to roll towards me!!
I looked and saw that there was no one in the car so I had a quick think, and decided that if I made a quick getaway, the car would crash into someone elses, so I quickly jumped out of my car and stopeed the other car just before it hit mine.
Then a guy in the car park saw and came over and helped, he held the car while I went and got a brick that we put behind their back wheel to stop it rolling!!
I of course checked my bumper for damage as the car must have been resting against it until I moved, luckily there was no damage so I drove back to the Lawns!!

Never knew you could have so much fun in a car park :).

Posted on 7 February 2004 13:50 by Kat.

Kat - Pat Sharp was at our Fresher's Week. Him and Toby Anstis did a battle of the DJs thing. I didn't go though.

Posted on 14 February 2004 0:00 by Bryn.

How the hell do two people who cant even properly DJ do a battle of the DJs??

Posted on 14 February 2004 12:29 by Oliver.

God knows.

Posted on 14 February 2004 16:48 by Bryn.

Well undoubtedly the music would be shit, but just like I can't play the indian bells properly, I could still take part in a battle of the indian bells contest.

Posted on 15 February 2004 0:22 by Geds.

No you couldnt cos you wouldnt know the rules or have a clue what to do. Sure you could make a racket, but if your opponant was similarly clueless and made a racket how do you choose between them? And back DJs Mullet and Ed the duck, what was it, who can play the shitest record? I can imagine a spiralling efect as each took it in turns to play records, each one cheesier shit than the last until who ever pulled out the golden jewel first won: Chesney Hawkes would be the decider.

Posted on 15 February 2004 13:05 by Oliver.

isnt pat sharp a radio DJ?

Posted on 15 February 2004 20:15 by Adam.

He may well be. I know Toby Anstis is a DJ on Heart FM. I don't think they're meant to be representing the forefront of british DJ talent, or be taken particularly seriously, but I may be wrong. I was also kind of assuming that an understanding of the rules of a battle of the DJ's contest prior to entering would be taken for granted. I suppose it wouldn't be too far off a Zoolander 'walk-off' situation?

Posted on 15 February 2004 22:26 by Geds.

That's Heart FM London by the way, before you all rush to your wireless to turn the dial to 100.7!

Posted on 15 February 2004 22:33 by Geds.

I dont know what a zoolander 'walk off' situation is but I still fail to see how 2 people who cant mix or scratch and have no technical ability as a DJ can have a DJ battle.

Posted on 16 February 2004 0:37 by Oliver.

I don’t see what the problem is. It’s like complaining that a non-league football match isn’t very good because the players aren’t professionals.

Posted on 16 February 2004 21:07 by Sean.

No its not its like complaining that a tiddlywinks game isnt good football.

Posted on 16 February 2004 23:28 by Oliver.

It’s quite obvious how people with no technical ability can play football—badly. They can still play.

Why is DJing different?

Posted on 17 February 2004 10:32 by Sean.

If they were attempting to 'DJ' and doing it badly then yes, but playing two cds end to end in relation to DJing is like playing one of those football manager games u used to get on the spectrum compared to actually playing Fifa or something. NE way my knowledge of football is too limited to come up with any more analogies, and as theres no other Djs to add to my argument my last word on the subject is this: Cheesy celebrity DJs are overpaid wankers.

Posted on 17 February 2004 17:14 by Oliver.

Just like professional footballers, then :-).

Posted on 19 February 2004 7:45 by Sean.

I'm at home at the moment and...the Saxon Mill has closed!!
It may have been brought by someone else as they have taken down the Harvester signs. So many memories of venturing there on a sunday evening!

Posted on 24 February 2004 14:31 by Kat.

Oh, no! (Actually quite a sincere statement, despite the lack of follow-up)
I've just got back from Skiing, which was great fun, bar the fact I fucked my glasses (again), and nearly killed myself in rather a spectacular wipeout - memory loss, unconsciousness, the works.
And guess what, campers! I'm going again in two weeks! Woohoo!

Posted on 24 February 2004 20:58 by Alasdair.

lucky sod, where'd u go and where are u going?

Posted on 25 February 2004 23:43 by furze.

Les Arcs, with Uni. Bit of a last minutish decision, actually, but at £400 instead of the usual £600, it's a bit of a bargain really - it should be superb good fun.

Posted on 26 February 2004 9:33 by Alasdair.

Not forgetting about the free hoody!

Posted on 26 February 2004 10:36 by Geds.

Well, of course not. In fact, that's accounting for £399 of the cost, IIRC - you know how exhorbitant printing prices are these days ;P.
You going Geds?

Posted on 26 February 2004 16:09 by Alasdair.

Tonight I ate 16 chicken spicy drumsticks in the space of 30 minutes.

I'm not going on the ski trip, quite gutted! But i'm gonna go next year.

Posted on 27 February 2004 1:14 by Geds.

Impressive Geds but any reason?! or where u pissed?

Ski trip sounds pretty cool, lucky git ali :) i dont think there has been a trip organised here, tho only thing i heard a vague rumour about was some BUSA summer ski thing.

Posted on 27 February 2004 21:06 by furze.

Proper intoxication actually mate ;) Havn't been able to go near chicken since.

Posted on 29 February 2004 23:48 by Geds.

One day Ill actually get round to making a proper website for my musical projects, for now U can listen to My Track with DJ Nabs at http://members.tripod.com/oliq0/geldrops.mp3 . Its a slow building prog track, so if your not into dance music usually give it a while.. :) Dont know how much bandwidth I get so get it while you can kids...

Posted on 1 March 2004 17:57 by Oliver.

Hey will if you come to leeds they do two trips a year at seriously discounted prices :-) i'm free next week if you want a guided tour of the sights.

Posted on 3 March 2004 12:20 by Mat.

That would be sweet mate, wil def. be coming up 4 the open day next wednesday :)

Posted on 3 March 2004 14:03 by furze.

Anyone see ER on wednesday?
Very dramamtic...is Romano dead? Lol, kind of ironic though, he ran downstairs to the car park from the roof because he was scared of the helicopter (after losing an arm to one last series), then the helicopter crashes on top of him!! Madness...

Posted on 5 March 2004 10:04 by Kat.

I missed it to go to the shittest night out known to man! Mucho dissapointed. As far as I know he has in fact finally popped his annoyingly sarcastic little clogs...

Posted on 5 March 2004 18:05 by Alasdair.

And what pray was the shittest night known to man? woulda thought goin out would beat watching t.v.?

Anyhow hows peeps goin with gettin houses etc? we should be looking at some next week as the list is out on tuesday, some friends looked at one this week which apparently resembled a crack house inside :-s

anyone see the shite that was the england vs Ireland, went to the wire in the last 10 mins, bloody irish, tho they did deserve to win as they played great - pity they had to beat us at twickenham tho :(

Posted on 6 March 2004 22:17 by furze.

Some funny Dance Upon Injustice thing - organised by the fundie happy Xtian crowd. I mean, laudable aim and all, but to be honest, I'd rather have sent them three pounds in an envelope. Music was pretty shit, and the atmosphere was just...strange. A complete waste of time and money.

Posted on 10 March 2004 13:19 by Alasdair.

did you know it was going to be a Xtian crowd? if so... you should have stayed in :)

Posted on 10 March 2004 23:07 by Adam.

We have a house, a beaut. Half way between uni and Brighton. Sharing with four others, £53 per week, but that doesn't include electricity, gas or phonebills. Well chuffed with it, perfect!

Posted on 10 March 2004 23:22 by Geds.

Well, I KINDA did, but I didn't realise it was going to be quite so ultra-weird...oh, well.

Posted on 11 March 2004 0:06 by Alasdair.

Hmm sounds a little dodgy ali, but fair do's. Thats cool geds, think u mentioned it on msn, gl;ad u got it all sorted out mate :)

Housing lists came out here on tuesday, the exact day that Chris decided to let us know he had changed gis mind and was gonna move in with other ppl, doh! poor timing in one sense.

Went to leeds yesterday, if anyone is interested what i thoght, its on my livejournal, it was good to see matt tho !

Laters, oh yeah, how long ppl got left this term, think matt and jiggly have like 2 weeks from what i've heard, is that right?

Posted on 11 March 2004 15:40 by furze.

A few points in that one, and as I have nothing to do at 6am (yeah, thanks you cunts who woke me up by dancing on the roof!), I might as well address them.
I might not have mentioned it to everyone, but we have a nice place for next year, also pretty close to central Brighton - signed the tenancy on Monday. I'm quite excited.
I remember going to Leeds the summer before last - seemed like a nice place.
And it's the last day of term today here! I'm off skiing this evening and I'm back in Leam in about a week...

Posted on 12 March 2004 6:48 by Alasdair.

Last week was a eventful one for me, 4 assignments due in!!
World Economy essay on wednesday,
Academic and Professional Skills (crappy uni version of PSE!) group coursework and individual report on thursday,
Accounting and Finance essay on friday!!

Busy busy!! Oh well, that's all done now, just got my marketing report left to do.

Wow Ali you finish early, we finish on 2nd April, but don't go back until the 26th.
But I'm only back for 2 weeks after that because my last exam's on May 6th, oh yes, a 4 month summer!!!

Posted on 15 March 2004 19:58 by Kat.

Jesus, Idve thought youd get away from shit like PSE when yr at uni. God you finish so early, Im back for 9 weeks after easter. Should be cool tho as all my last essays are due in for the week i get back, couple of months of relative freedom here wil be good, kinda wish I could stay for the summer really.

Posted on 16 March 2004 0:38 by Oliver.

Both of you seem to have some crazy term dates, along with ali to for that matter, I break up 2 weeks on friday, and have about 5 weeks back at uni afterwards, i;m not too sure how many exams i have - at least 4 or 5 tho :)

Summer should be a good kickback, chilling, little bit of work, some work on the car, after yrs of doin fuck all due to having better priorities at the time, try n travel a bit,

Hello everyone,
I’m not really up to date with things that people are up to. I’ve got loads of c/w to be getting on with that seems to be taking over my life at the moment as I attempt to get it complete ASAP so I can get as much revision in as possible before my exams. It’s cool to think that I finally only have 7 teaching weeks left at binswood now. Although I have enjoyed that place a lot it hasn’t been the same this year and I just can’t wait to move on now. I’m aiming for 280 points in my exams as that’s what I need to go and join Katherine up in hull.
I think going out with Katherine has defiantly been a turning point for me, she defiantly given me a lot of targets and made me v happy she’s a star and you should all know that.
Should prob go get on with some more c/w now all have fun,
Let me know when you back in Leam I’m def up for going out as and when people get back

Posted on 19 March 2004 15:18 by furze.

Has anyone else had some seriously strong winds today? I heard on the news that it was going to be stormy and gale force winds over the mext few days, but jeez!!

And for those who watch it...Argh!! It's the last EVER Sex And The City tonight!! Suppose I'm probably the only fan... :)

Posted on 19 March 2004 18:28 by Kat.

I watched the last episode (which was the first episode i've ever watched!) and it was superb! I'm gutted I didn't watch any more than I did actually, might have to borrow the DVD's from someone!

Posted on 20 March 2004 16:39 by Geds.

Good news though is that C5 now airs the Home + Away omnibus on Sat mornings (critically) ... followed by Dawson's Geek! How cool is that.

Well everyone, it's hard keeping up with everything everyones doing, but I have a bit of exciting news. Although I've been doing loads of essays and stuff recently, working rather too much sometimes, I have managed to meet someone pretty amazing, and she has persuaded me to spend my next year of university studying in Canada! Theres a small group of us from Sheffield going on echange with the university of Toronto, from 15th Sept for 9 months over there. Cant tell you how excitied I am, its gonna be so cool, and defiantly not something I expected when I started here. NE ways hopefully Rach is coming down to stay in Easter so you can meet her, should be fun for us all to be back in Leam for a few weeks for some crazy nights out, anyway see you soon,

Posted on 25 March 2004 19:25 by Alasdair.

Posted on 27 March 2004 0:48 by furze.

Good god news travels fast, and through mysterious channels. Really no big deal - just some random in a club, but at least it means I don't end up with a zero for the term on the Blue Peter Shag-o-meter.

Posted on 27 March 2004 22:18 by Alasdair.

Hey oli, back soon (ish) so hopefully she will still be around I gotta meet this fine ladyyyyyy. We will have some wild ones when I return to form in Leam. Love to all

Hullo,

For all those of you out there with new fangled digital cameras - I have a brand new digital photo viewer machine that lets you watch look at your photos on a TV. It has a remote control. I don't need it because I have a cable that allows me to do the same thing, but if any of you would like it, it's yours for a tenner.

P.s. - it works by plugging your memory card directly into the machine.

Form an orderly queue!

Oh, one more thing. On saturday 1st May, my ranger unit are doing a car wash thingy at the fire station to raise money for the unit, don't worry I'm not asking you to help!!

I know most of you probably won't be around, but if you wanted your car washed by a group of ladieeees (most of whom will probably be teenagers, although that's not a guarantee!!) then go to the fire station on sat 1st May between 10am and 3pm. I would be one of the people helping, but I'll be at uni.

Oh, it won't be free, probably be a couple of pounds, not sure though.

Dude you left a traffic cone on my car?! you cheeky swine :-p.

I have 6 exams - 7 hours worth and they will be finished by the 29th, wich means i have 2 weeks of just chilling out here - lots of bbq's etc hopefully :-). Its also nice to have a shit load of cash, after paying some bills i shoudl have a grand to play with for about 6 weeks - tho sayin that, i do have to pay my mum n dad back some money.

Bloody strange to think the 1st yr is almost over, and by the sounds of it it already will be for a few ppl like kat.

what are people's plans for the summmer? anything exciting?

Posted on 9 May 2004 19:40 by furze.

I'm going on holiday to the southern Vendee in France with uni friends and hopefully should learn to surf at the same time which is something i've wanted to do for so long. Planning on working in B&Q cos they're not too far away and have decent pay, although i'm sure it has its fair share of troglodites. I'm trying to set something up with the BBC so I can do some easy but useful articles for them which would probably be done over summer. Also got some work experience lined up there. I do have a couple of other travel plans (volunteer work) but there's nothing concrete yet.

Roll on 13th June!

P.s. Furze you gaylord ;)

Hey all,
Well I'm on summer hol's now, have been since the 7th. Veeeery early!!

I've been working mostly so far, I signed up to a temp' agency before I went back for my exams and they get me randon jobs. I've been working at Warwickshire College, Henley-in-Arden site this week doing administration stuff. Dunno what I'll be doing next week, depends what they find for me.

I signed up to the temp' agency because I couldn't get any shifts at the gym until the end of July, so I needed another job...yes, it's a 'real' job this time, as opposed to just sitting around doing not a lot ;)!!

Hope everyone is well, see you all when you break up...whenever that is!!

Kat, which work agency are you going with? Manpower or Workworld? Or another? I just ask cos I signed up with both over Easter and got pretty much no work at all from either of them, just a couple of days mailshotting which was shit ... have they suggested there might be more over summer? No worries if you have no idea!

I finish on June 12th, probably back on about the 14th, then leave for a quick holiday on the 17th.

Also - if any of you people have access to MTV wherever you are, you would be doing a friend of mine a great favour if you could tune in to TRL on MTV this coming Thursday at 4.30pm and vote for Kate Edmondson to be the next MTV Hits presenter. It should tell you how to vote on the programme.

Cheers!

I'm with Workworld. My brother signed up to them last year I think and said they were quite good. I worked all of last week, think I should be working again by next week. Just keep ringing up and hassling them!! The lady said they have a lot at the moment.
